"Education for All" (Ethiopia, 2023): Transforming Lives Through Advocacy
About the Project
The "Education for All" project began in 2023, led by Horn of Africa Communication for Development Ltd. It was a key effort to boost education in rural Ethiopia. Specifically, we worked in the Amhara and Oromia regions with a $300,000 budget. For a year, this initiative tackled school access issues. First, we raised awareness. Then, we secured funding and got communities involved. By using smart communication and strong partnerships, we aimed to change lives. As a result, kids in remote areas got better learning chances.
UNICEF Ethiopia hired us and gave $150,000. Meanwhile, partners like the Ethiopian Ministry of Education, EduTech Solutions, and Tai Global Elective helped too. Together, we used the $300,000 to cut education gaps. Ultimately, this aligned with big goals for growth and fairness in the Horn of Africa.

Project Objective
Our main goal was clear: secure $2 million to build and equip 50 rural schools. Additionally, we wanted to reach 100,000 people with education messages. Another aim was to drop school dropout rates by 30% in target areas—all with a $300,000 budget. So, we empowered local leaders and parents to support education. Consequently, this ensured over 10,000 kids could keep learning long-term.
How It Was Conducted
Education for All" was executed in three key phases, optimizing the $300,000 budget:
- Advocacy Campaign ($100,000): A multimedia campaign, "Learn Today, Lead Tomorrow," was launched with Impact Metrics’ data-driven targeting. Using radio, posters, and community rallies, it reached 120,000 people to build support. Costs covered production and airtime.
- Stakeholder Engagement ($80,000): Partnering with the Ethiopian Ministry of Education, 20 town hall meetings were held with local leaders and parents. EduTech Solutions provided training for 200 community advocates on education benefits, with funds for logistics and materials.
- Funding Push ($120,000): A high-profile donor event in Addis Ababa, supported by UNICEF Ethiopia’s networks, pitched the project to international donors. The budget funded event planning, travel, and a documentary showcasing rural education needs, securing $2.5 million.
